In today’s world we can generally find electronics wherever we look, from the smallest gadgets in our daily life, to high powered devices and communication systems. The thermal management of these systems is a very important topic when it comes to ensuring proper working of the devices we use with a high lifetime of service. Overheating can quickly lead to a cascading effect, where because of the decreasing efficiency losses are increasing continuously, leading to an inevitable failure point.
In this Tech Talk we will give a general overview concerning the available thermal solvers in CST Studio Suite and take a closer look at the particular example of a high-powered filter active in the GHz regime. We will demonstrate how to set up a coupled simulation in CST Studio Suite and see how one can easily and quickly gain an understanding of the thermal behavior of the device and how this behavior changes depending on material properties or when adding a liquid cooling system for active cooling

About CST Studio Suite
CST Studio Suite offers efficient and intuitive ways of determining electromagnetic losses and coupling these to thermal simulations, with different thermal solvers and also different coupling types, which can be easily adjusted to give best results for the specific problem at hand. By identifying possible problems early on in the development process and being able to optimize the thermal behavior virtually we can save both time and money.
